Iron Blue glazed vase
This tall stoneware vase was wheel thrown and hand glazed by Rowley Drysdale at Quixotica. It has had a series of firings there and features a chun style glaze.
Glazes in the Chun glaze family are lovely light blue high fire glazes that feature opalescence caused by micro bubbles that refract light. Originating in Song Dynasty, China, their color is primarily an optical illusion stemming from light refracted off the inside of bubbles trapped in the glaze. The color comes from small percentages of iron often enhanced with minute amounts of copper.
This is a strong piece in one of Rowley's signature glazes, with beautiful variation in colour from top to bottom.
Dimensions - 14 cm diameter x 30 cm high
